In a massive warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia, the skilled craftsmen who work in the Opera Philadelphia scene shop build the set for the world premiere of 10 Days in a Madhouse.
In May 2023, a swarm of bees landed on a truck meant to load out the set after Opera Philadelphia’s La bohème. Beekeeper Eric Schoefer arrived to remove the bees, filling several boxes over the course of two hours, finishing up right as the performance did. Now the bees live at his apiary, Cresheim Valley Honey, where they are known as the “opera swarm.”
CrossFit coach Hugo Rivera works at three different gyms, traveling nearly every day from his home in the Bronx to coach in Astoria and Howard Beach. His dream job growing up was to be a Navy SEAL. He struggles with injuries, which derailed a military career, but along the way he fell in love with working out. CrossFit helped Rivera discover a passion for teaching, make friends and meet his girlfriend.
